Herb Walks
The herb walks are given in two formats. Both are informative and educational
but distinctly different. The Group Herb Walks or, lovingly referred to
as 'Guerrilla herb walks', are full day events with a group of similarly
interested people. The Personal Herb Walks are well.....more personal.
It's an event with you, me and all the plants we come across in an hour
at a place of your choice in or around Tucson.
Your Guide: Charlie Kane has been utilizing native southwestern plants
medicinally for the last decade. As a young boy he was first introduced
to plant usage through his grandfather who was a backwoodsman - "My
grandfather, my brother and I would collect wild cresses and onions together.
His favorite plant for treating poison ivy rashes we occasionally got
from tromping around was Jewelweed. He knew all of the trees, during the
winter and summer alike." The seeds that were planted from Charlie's
boyhood would later play a pivotal role in his life path. As a young adult
Charlie discovered how plants can be powerful tools of healing, first
by seeing the effects in his own body, then seeing it in others. Later,
through working with local herbalists, including studies at the Southwest
School of Botanical Medicine, and applying himself in self study Charlie
developed a practical, hands-on, and effective style of herbalism. What
is seen today at TCBM is an eclectic approach combining traditional and
modern herbal uses, western physiology, and constitutional work.
Specializing in:
- Herbal support of wellness
- Constitutional herbal medicine
- Native plant therapies for many of today's ailments
- Dispensed high quality herbal medicines personally prepared and ethically
collected from the southwestern US
Herbalism that is based upon native plants as healing agents almost always
summons a profound healing experience. The closeness of the medicine and
the connection which it fosters are primary facets in a regional plant-based
path to wellness.
A holistic approach towards health is taken when deeper
disharmonies, along with superficial symptoms are relieved. This is what
constitutional herbalism is based upon. This perspective is needed for
sustained and profound resolution of distress. At the Tucson Clinic of
Botanical Medicine the person is treated, not just the reflection of the
disharmony which is the pathology or labeled disease.
