From the arid desert valley at 2400 feet to Mt Lemmon over 9000 feet surrounded by Aspens and Lodge Pole Pines, the Tucson area and the Sonoran Desert are some of the most biologically diverse places in the world. At nearly 100,000 square miles, the Sonoran Desert is one of the most biologically diverse places in the world. It is home to Saguaro National Park East and West, Sonoran Desert Museum and the Coronado National Forest, which feature a wealth of world-renowned hiking trails. In addition to its ecological diversity, Tucson has been settled for at least 10,000 years and is one of the oldest inhabited places in North America. Ancient cultures left behind amazing petroglyphs and artifacts that can be found on featured local trails.
Southwest Trekking offers guided hiking tours in each unique Tucson terrain – the classic Sonoran Desert filled with giant saguaro cactus, Savannah-like grasslands inhabited by bobcats and deer, high-altitude pine forests and riparian areas filled with pools and waterfalls. Southwest Trekking will provide an unforgettable adventure showcasing destinations known only by locals.
Each hiking trip will be full of fun and learning! Further, your hike will be led by experienced guides who share information about Arizona’s rich history as well as the flora and fauna in the area.
While plenty of fun is to be had, safety comes first. Our knowledgeable trail Guides have Wilderness First Responder training and will adapt the pace and trail difficulty to accommodate all fitness levels.
Group sizes will influence the location of the hike and may warrant multiple Guides to ensure safety. In cases of large groups, Guides will discuss the interests and abilities of the group and divide into smaller groups offering a more tailored experience. Southwest Trekking is authorized to lead outings in the Coronado National Forest and Saguaro National Park through the National Park Service.
A guided hike through the Sonoran Desert allows one to meditate and reflect on situations and provides the group to share in the same experience sparking a connection between individuals. Locations for large group hikes can vary and may include Sabino Canyon, Ventana Canyon, Saguaro National Park East, and West and other various trails in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains.
